The CHASSEPOT bayonet has an iron single-edged blade, which ends in a point. The top is 4/5 flattened and is engraved with the inscription "Mre d' Armes d' Culle Aout 1877". The iron guard is perpendicular to the blade. The one spiral end is engraved with "L 35540", while the other is in the form of a metal circular support through which the barrel of the GRAS M1874 breech-loading infantry carbine passes, of which the CHASSEPOT bayonet was an accessory. The bayonet grip has two wooden side pads, which are attached to the central one with two through screws. The top of the grip is brass and is notched to fit the bayonet to the rifle.
