The sword’s nickel-plated iron blade is slightly curved, single-edged and ends in a point. A shallow cavity runs along the majority of its length on both sides, on which its decorative themes are developed slightly embossed: On the right side spirals and between them the Royal Court of Arms with Hercules and the crown. On the same side, in legible writing, there is the inscription “DEFEND THY COUNTRY”. The other side is decorated with spirals and flowers. Near the grip, on both sides, the blade has a square seal with the engraved inscription “HELLENIC MILITARY ASSOCIATION OF ATHENS”. The grip is made of dark brown horn and has twisted wire decoration. The brass guard has an elaborate floral decoration, showing the Royal Court of Arms with Hercules and the crown. Also, on the top of the grip, on the brass cap there is a similar shield. Attached to the grip is the gilded tassel, with the gilded band and the ribbon. This type of sword was established for infantry officers with the order “On the command of the army” on 24 May 1868. The sword belonged to General Dimitrios Kakkavos, who during the Macedonian Struggle served at the Greek Consulate in Thessaloniki under the alias Dimitrios Zois.
