The Leopard IGR was the first German-made tank used by the Greek Army. In 1983, the receipt of 106 of such tanks, which the Greek government had ordered, began. They are still in service and are due to be modernised. The Leopard IV is a modernised version of the Dutch Leopard 1 NL, which differed from the German vehicle in several subsystems. The Greek Army received 170 tanks of this type after the signing of the Treating on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.
