In 1983, the receipt of 106 of such tanks, which the Greek government had ordered, began. They are still in service and are due to be modernised. The Leopard IV is a modernised version of the Dutch Leopard 1 NL, which differed from the German vehicle in several subsystems. The Greek Army received 170 tanks of this type after the signing of the Treating on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.
