M48A3 Type: Battle Tank Origin: USA Year of manufacture: 1952-1960 Crew: 4 (Commander, Gunner, Loader, Driver) Dimensions: 7.391 x 3.581 x 3.238 m (with the gun in marching position) Weight: 48,535 kg Engine: Continental AVDS-1790-2A, 12-cylinder, diesel engine, 750 bhp Armament: 105 mm machine gun, 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun, 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun In the late ‘70s the Greek Army decided to modernise the M48 and M48A1 tanks it had in service. The project was undertaken by the 301 PEV (Base Factory) in Velestino which rebuilt the tanks and changed their engines. Since then the same plant has carried out many more tank modernisation programs.
