Married women’s formal traditional costume of Naoussa. The costume consists of the shirt (chemise), the dress, the apron, the cropped vest embellished with gold embroidery (saltamarka), the plastron (could be one or two), the two undersleeves, the mafesi (fabric worn over the plastron), the sash (fabric that encircled the waist and hips), the gold-embroidered belt with the ornate buckle (kolani), the hat with the flower on the left (tepeluki), and the embroidered shoes. The costume was complemented by jewellery, such as gold coins around the throat, brooches, earrings, necklaces (giurdania). A married woman’s formal costume was practically her bridal costume, except it did not have a tassel on the hat and was part of her dowry when she got married, as it was made of expensive materials. It was used until the early decades of the 20th century.
