Painting by Dimitris Scooper, a local artist of the town, on the sacrifice of the women of Naoussa. The scene depicts the moment when the women of Naoussa sacrifice their lives in Arapitsa, the town’s river, to escape being captured by the Turks. Three women can be seen through the rushing waters of the waterfall. Another woman is about to follow them, while five more are dancing the local dance “Makrinitsa”, ready to follow as well. Behind them, more women can be seen coming to the river to escape enslavement. In the lower right corner is the artist’s signature and in the left corner is the work’s year of creation and donation to the Lykeion ton Ellinidon of Naoussa.
