Correspondence of Georgios Iakovatos /1872-1875-1880-1881/ concerning estates in Patras"
ManuscriptThe Iakovatos family owned considerable real estate in the wider area of Paliki, inherited from the split of the original barony of Typaldos, from which they essentially secured their income by cultivating mainly raisins, which they traded..The Iakovatos brothers, along with their individual professional occupations, were interested and contributed to the management and enhancement of this common property by purchasing land in the region of Achaia. The estates in Achaia had been bought by Georgios together with his brother Charalampos when, after the end of their studies (1839), they settled in Patras. The cultivation and trade of products as well as the leases of the estates of Patras strengthened the financial resources of the family for many years after the settlement of George and Charalambos in the area. In these estates they cultivated mainly raisins and fig trees, while trading the silk produced. Due to its commercial activity, the economic situation of the family of Typaldos Iakovatos was inevitably affected by the general economic conditions, as they were mainly shaped in the Ionian Islands in the 19th century. As a result, there was a loss of their income and a decline in their economic power in the first two decades of the 19th century.
